Christmas Rushnyk

My own design based on popular division derived from saddlebags ("savky"). Rushnychok are traditional cross-stitched cloths.

I made this for a Christmas egg exchange and I just learned that the colors happened to correspond to the recipient's family tartan colors -- what a great coincidence!

Rushnychok are traditional cross-stitched cloths.

On this pysanka:
Rosette/eight-pointed star: sun symbol (Pagan), God's love (Christian)
Wave meander: health and wealth, baptism
Wolves' teeth: protection, wisdom
Baskets (hatched triangles): providing for others
Sieves (hatched squares): plowed fields, separating good from evil
Triangles: magical number three (mother, father child; three elements, etc), Holy Trinity
