It is said that as long as pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs) are being made somewhere in the world, the balance between good and evil is maintained. This blog is a record of my own contributions to saving the world from evil.

Firebird
This design is based off of an egg imported from Ukraine in the 2012 UGS catalogue.
Mostly, I've changed the subject from a chicken to a more graceful bird, although this would be the most domesticated firebird I've ever seen. The firebird is a Russian fairytale, and not Ukrainian, but I've always been drawn to it.
Birds in general are featured on pysanky and represent the fulfillment of wishes and fertility. Diamonds symbolize knowledge and immortality. The pussy willow branches at the ends of the eggs symbolize new life. When in triangles, the hatched designs represent baskets or nets, for catching knowledge and experience.
Orange, which dominates this egg, represents endurance, strength, and ambition.
