Beehives

Some of my own design, though strongly inspired by one of the ostrich eggs featured on the UGS site.
I made this egg for my parents in honor of their beehives.  Although not traditional, I tried to incorporate a honeycomb motif (in red, black, and gold) along one of the meanders.  Bees denote industry and hard work.  They're particularly pleasing to celebrate on pysanky since the pysanky can't be made without beeswax... making this something of a meta-pysanky in that it celebrates its own creation.

One symbol that dominates this egg is the spiral, which conveys powerful protection onto the egg owner (since evil spirits are thought to be drawn into and trapped by spirals).
