40 Days of Pysanky 40: Entwined Vines (Duck Egg)

This is an adaptation of a much beloved diasporan pysanka featured in Elyjiw's Sixty Score of Easter Eggs (Table 47, No. 13). I entirely changed the vertical band to my own composition. 

40 Days of Pysanky 39: Hutsul Stags

This is a near replica of a pysanka featured on a UGS card written in the Hutsul style.

40 Days of Pysanky 38: Palm Sunday

This is a draft of an idea that stuck me while I was in church this past Sunday. I still haven't figured out exactly where I'll take the design -- however, I got the major ideas down at least!

40 Days of Pysanky 37: Broken Crosses

This is a replica of a folk pysanka from Vira Manko's The Ukrainian Folk Pysanka (Table 24, No. 35) "Rozlomani khresty" (broken crosses), from Vinnytsia province, ethnographically Podillia.

40 Days of Pysanky 36: Willow Sunday

Pussy willows are used instead of palms on Palm Sunday in the Ukrainain Easter tradition. Luba Petrusha has a nice compilation of information on this tradition and its roots here. 

This is an adaptation of a folk pysanka collected by Vira Manko and shared courtesy of Luba Petrusha. It is one of a set of pysanky purchased from the Easter markets in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. This particular one is from Illintsi. This region is ethnographically Pokuttia. I've changed the center of the star, the ornamentation around the pussy willow branches, and added a border (I couldn't see the border on the original pysanka).

This is a near-replica of a folk pysanka collected by Vira Manko and shared courtesy of Luba Petrusha. It is one of a set of pysanky purchased from the Easter markets in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. This particular one is from Illintsi. This region is ethnographically Pokuttia.

This is a replica of a folk pysanka featured in Vira Manko's The Ukrainian Folk Pysanka (Table 6, No. 37) from Lviv province. It is called "Kachachi lapky," or "Duck Feet."

40 Days of Pysanky 31: "Lily of the Valley"

This is a replica of a folk pysanka featured in Vira Manko's The Ukrainian Folk Pysanka (Table 2, No. 9) from the Presov region, now Slovakia. It is named "Konvalija," or "Lily of the Valley."

 This is a replica of a folk pysanka in Vira Manko's The Ukrainian Folk Pysanka (Table 21, No. 10) called "Ravlyk," or "snail," from Berehomet, Vyzhnytsia region in Chernivtsi Province.  This is ethnographically the Bukovyna region.

This is a replica of a folk pysanka featured in Vira Manko's The Ukrainian Folka Pysanka, (Table 21, No. 23), "Sokyrky" or "Hatchets," from Chernivtsi province. This is ethnographically the Bukovyna region.
