This design was inspired by a folk design by Taras Horodetsky which used the repeating stag and bird motif. I've changed the color scheme and all the other motifs.

40 Days of Pysanky 1: Creeping Vine

This original design is starting off my Lenten project of trying to write a pysanka every day. The posts will appear to be a day off since I'll be posting the pysanka from the previous day. I hope you'll enjoy following me to Easter!

Florid Flowers

This design was inspired by a diasporan pysanka from UGS. I've reworked the color scheme and the motifs while keeping the same division and flower placement.

Pine and Spirals

This diasporan design was featured on a UGS postcard. I made some modifications, including the medallions at the top and bottom of the pysanka.

Embroidered Sleeve

This design was adapted from a diasporan pysanka from a UGS postcard. I've kept the motifs nearly exactly the same, but inverted the color scheme by starting with red, proceeding to black, and then etching back to white. The large amount of white with leading red lines reminded me of Ukrainian embroidery.

Etched Winter Trees

Two experiments of mine with etching back brown chicken eggs. The first was etched with vinegar in several steps to get different shades of brown. The second was a lighter egg dyed several times before a final etch.

Last Autumn Flowers

The overall design of this egg is based on a diasporan design featured in a UGS postcard. I have changed the color scheme as well as many of the design elements.
